AGR Leaders Shape Student Government at Western Illinois

At Western Illinois University, two brothers from Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) are proving how fraternity leadership translates directly into campus leadership. Seniors Jace Green and James Bierman are not only deeply involved in their fraternity but also serve in some of WIU’s most influential student leadership positions.

Jace Green – SGA President

A senior from Arthur, Illinois, majoring in Agricultural Business, Jace Green serves as Noble Ruler (President) of Alpha Gamma Rho and was elected President of the Student Government Association. He also represents his peers on the Ag Council and competes as a WIU Track and Field athlete

Jace credits his fraternity experience as a major factor in his student government success.

“During the campaigning period my brothers were able to not only work as a campaign team spreading the word across campus, but I believe the reputation of leadership and excellence that AGR as a whole has aided me in promoting my values,” he said.

Having held positions within AGR throughout his undergraduate years, Jace believes the 24/7 responsibility of fraternity leadership prepared him well for his role as SGA President. Looking ahead, he plans to return to his family’s corn and soybean farm while also pursuing work as a farmland auctioneer.

James Bierman – Student Trustee

From Newton, Illinois, fellow senior James Bierman also studies Agricultural Business at WIU. Within AGR, he serves as Vice Noble Ruler of House Management and Operations, while on campus he was elected as a Student Representative to the Board of Trustees. James is also active as an Ag Council representative and serves as a coach for the MMA Club

Like Jace, James points to AGR as a foundation for his leadership success.

“Greek life showed up to help us win,” James reflected. “It has impacted my leadership experience, through teaching patience, and management skills.”

His work has already earned him recognition, including being elected to the WIU Board of Trustees and receiving the Cliff Becker Award. After graduation, James hopes to pursue a career in the agricultural industry, with interests in sales and operational logistics.

Brotherhood, Leadership, and Service

Together, Jace and James exemplify how fraternity life develops student leaders who serve not just their brothers, but the entire campus community. Their paths show that the lessons of fraternity leadership—teamwork, accountability, and service—are the same lessons that prepare students to lead in student government and beyond.
