At just 20 years old, University of Nevada, Las Vegas junior Kelechi Odunze is already making his mark on campus leadership. A member of Alpha Tau Omega, Kelechi serves as Student Body President and 2025 Homecoming Director, representing thousands of students while continuing to live out the values of fraternity and community leadership.
Originally from Las Vegas, Kelechi is pursuing a degree in Political Science and currently serves his chapter as Chaplain. His leadership journey has been deeply shaped by fraternity and sorority life, which he credits for helping him win his SGA election. “FSL allowed us to discuss our campaign in chapter meetings, provided endorsements, and served as campaign surrogates,” he said. “That support really strengthened our outreach and visibility.”
When asked about his campaign philosophy, Kelechi emphasized authenticity and effort. “Be personable. Come with real, creative, and impactful ideas,” he advised. “Always be ready to answer why you’re running—and outwork both your opponents and your past self.”
As Student Body President, Kelechi has already made a tangible impact. Two of his proudest achievements include establishing a commuter fund for UNLV’s commuter students and negotiating with administrators to keep the university affordable—efforts that directly improve daily life for his peers.
Kelechi says his fraternity experience has shaped his approach to leadership. “It’s better to lead together, even if it can be complicated,” he reflected. “It has deepened my appreciation for collaborative leadership.” His advice to fellow student leaders? “Use your role to open doors for others—always invite more people to the table and use your position to elevate your peers.”
Looking ahead, Kelechi hopes to continue his passion for advocacy and justice by becoming an Entertainment Law Attorney. His mantra—“Nothing is impossible”—captures the spirit of his journey so far: driven, community-minded, and grounded in the belief that leadership is best when shared.
